Tamale is the capital of the Northern Region
of Ghana. It has
good bus connections to
the major
cities of Accra and Kumasi and
to local
towns and villages. Most of central
Tamale is
accessible by foot or bicycle
while local
taxis are frequent and cheap.
Local
tourist attractions include the ancient
mosque at Larabanga, the
elephants at
Mole National Park, the crocodile pools of
Paga, and the
spectacular Tongo Hills and
Tengzug shrines.
In
climate, northern Ghana is
drier than the
tropical south and the landscape is
savannah
like. The harmattan wind season
with its dry
hot days runs from November to
late March or
April, followed by a wet
season that
peaks in August to September.
